Range Administration: The range facility is administered by the North Shore Regional Target Shooting Complex Management Association Inc. ( NSRTCMA ). This provides a community facility for the Hornsby and North Shore region. Other local groups, such as Cadets, Scout groups, Bush Fire Brigades, the Greater Public Schools, Bush Walkers, Dog Training and Police Training Squads use the Range on a regular basis.

Hornsby rifle range is not open to the general public, as shooting is taking place at various times during the day and evening. Interested shooters and visitors are welcome but the rifle range is not open for dog walking, riding, picnics, etc. The danger zone extending to the west is also restricted from public access. Supervision provided by each Organisation or Club, as they control the various shooting activities, ensures the safety of visitors with a genuine interest in shooting.
|
A phone call: a week before you attend the facility allows you to establish a contact person/place/time at an appropriate, safe, section of the range. Visitors to the range are welcomed, trained, coached and closely supervised before, during and after shooting, to ensure every one's safety.

A second danger flag is placed at the shooting mound - do not proceed in front of this second danger flag. This flag is visible in the picture at the top of this page. A third flag is placed at the far end of the range, at the butts area where the bullets arrive. |

| Entry onto the main shooting range itself is by turning left up a series of vehicle access ramps. You need to know which ramp to take - ask first. Safety is provided by locking off access to the short range ramps when long range shooting is in progress. | |||||||||||
| To shoot, competitors drive up onto the main range, about a half hour before start time, and park about 20 metres behind the firing point. The first row of parking is reserved for elderly and disabled competitors. | |||||||||||

Bring: sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, water, and a rain coat if its raining. Each person takes their turn on the shooting mound and you will be out in the sun / wind / rain / hail / fog / dust, on the rifle range, throughout the afternoon. Umbrellas tend to blow away. Jeans work better than dresses. Pets such as dogs, and young children have very sensitive hearing .... its not that they are not welcome, its just that shooting involves a certain degree of auditory discomfort.
|
Food/soft drinks on the range: As a service to shooters on the Hornsby range, this club provides an esky of iced soft drink cans, for gold coin sale, through the hotter months, at the full bore shooting mound, each week. Some of the clubhouses heat pies around lunchtime, but in general there is no catering for major meals. Hornsby shops are close.
